A Long Night in London
A true story of catastrophe, survival and love from Britain’s home front.
Suitable for Age 10 +
A fast moving epic tale is expertly performed with a stiff upper lip, courage and music hall traditions, in respectful memory of all who lost their lives on the 80th anniversary of The Bethnal Green Tube disaster – the worst civilian loss of life during World War 2.
At 8.27pm the touch-paper was lit. A frightening roar went out as a nearby anti-aircraft battery fired a salvo of a new type of rocket from Victoria Park. The weapon was a secret, with an unfamiliar sound. Apprehension turned to panic. As the crowd surged into Bethnal Green’s tube shelter, down the wet and slippery steps a woman with a baby fell near the bottom of the first staircase, a man tripped over her and the terrible and tragic human domino effect had begun.
