An Evening with Lady Montagu

A Georgian lady's fascinating life story with music from Handel...

Suitable for Age 12 +

Lady Montagu was a Georgian aristocrat who eloped against her father the dukes wishes. Reconciled to her family she travelled to Constantinople and was the first person to visit and write about the sultans harem. She discovered smallpox vaccination, exchanged copious letters with the Prime Minister Hugh Walpole.

She was estranged from her husband and moved to Venice to have affairs with Casanova and various counts eventually moving to the Italian lakes where she established an English country garden… A published poet, early feminist, and scientist and woman of letters.

She returned to England after 25 years and you are invited to her London house to hear of her interesting life. She will recite and sing a soprano some arias from Handel whilst accompanied by her pianist.

*Please note: this is NOT Gin Palace Production's of Lady Montague and Lady Capulet.
