ART
A heartbreaking comedy about the madness of friendship
Suitable for Age 12 +
3 friends, a €100,000 piece of art, and late-20s friendship (in all its humour and madness!).
After a sold-out run at the University of Sussex, this new production of the acclaimed comedy ART, by Yasmina Reza and translated by Christopher Hampton, takes on Brighton Fringe!
What happens to friendship when differing perspectives on life are suddenly brought to the surface? Serge, a budding art-collector, buys an extortionately expensive white canvas which sets off a chain reaction - arguments, collusion, laughs, a “bizarre struggle” and, eventually, tears. The function of art (and friendship) is found along the way.
What can we expect in the future of our friendships? How will we communicate? Do we really need to talk about it?
A play about the ups and downs of friendship – with all the emotions in between!
Warnings: Mild swearing, brief allusions to hypothetical violence and a short scene of stage-combat
